Submitting an article to Dumb Little Man is simple and open to anyone. First, you have to decide what the goal is. Do you:
- Simply want to contribute to the community?
- Want to get a little publicity to your blog?
- Want to bring in a little cash and get paid on a per article basis?
I am open to any of these scenarios and as long as it's good, clean, informative writing, I am sure it's only a matter of time before you are officially published on DLM.
To provide you with some guidance on what I'm looking for, here are two recent posts that were featured on Dumb Little Man. Each article was written by a freelancer / blogger and as you'll see, the writer sticks to a single topic and tells readers how to specifically achieve a certain goal. This is the preferred format for articles versus typing several block paragraphs.
You see, it takes some work but these are the kinds of posts you can surely create. Once you are done, simply email it to me. If the article is great, I will publish it in a couple of days. If it needs some work or if I don't believe the article will resonate with our readers, I will let you know.
Easy right? Ok, here are a couple of rules:
Know that I am pretty picky about what we publish. If you want to run an idea past me before you spend time on writing it, PLEASE do. I don't want anyone to waste their time.
Here are some other requirements that need to be followed. Most of these are self explanatory and very obvious.- You must write ALL of the content as opposed to saying "Jim wrote a cool article, click here to read it". You can however reference pertinent sites in your post as long as you link to them as sources.
- Unless your image is absolutely needed to convey a point, please don't add one. I will take care of that.
- Please do not use any affiliate links, attempt to Rickroll our readers, or refer to any spam sites.
- Don't be upset if I edit your writing for grammar and punctuation or even sentence structure. I will not change the meaning of your article or your point of view, however I have been known to rewrite entire paragraphs that are confusing or wordy.
- Your closing paragraph (the bio), which credits you as the writer, should contain no more than 2 outgoing links. Here is what is should look similar to (Written by John Smith, owner of XYZ site).
- The article you submit cannot be duplicated on any other sites, including your own.
- If we paid you for the article, Dumb Little Man becomes the owner of the content although it will always contain an attribution to you.
- If you were not paid for the article by Dumb Little Man, you are simply granting us the right to keep it on our site and you are agreeing not to submit the article to anyone else's site.
You have to admit that most of those are common knowledge but I like lists and avoiding emails! All in all, it's simple. Write something that's honest and submit it. I'll edit it, add an image perhaps and publish it. In return, you will get some publicity.
Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.
- Jay White
